Art Classes & Workshops

We recommend completing Watercolor Basics 1 & 2 before taking any other watercolor course. This will help you learn and practice the fundamentals techniques. If Watercolor Basics 1 & 2 are not currently offered, we can do private instruction.

For students who have taken at some drawing but want to enhance their drawing skills and learn pen and ink techniques. We will work on composition, perspective and developing drawing skills. We will explore:

  • Creating drawings with pen and ink
  • Adding color to drawings with watercolor or ink washes

Each class students will be given an “assignment” to do on their own to help reinforce and build their skills.

  • Drawing or Sketch pad – 9 x 12 or larger
  • Graphite pencils  (2B, H)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Vinyl or rubber eraser
  • Ruler
  • Watercolor, Bristol or heavy mixed media paper (smoother watercolor hot press paper works best for pen and ink – but can use regular cold press)
  • Pen nibs of various sizes
  • Black or Sepia India ink (if using pen nibs)
  • Micron (.o5 or .08), Fine point Sharpie or other permanent black pens/markers that are water safe (if don’t want to use actual pen nibs)
  • Small container of water
  • Paper towels

OPTIONAL if you want to add color

  • Watercolor inks, watercolor paints or watercolor pencils (optional)
  • Small and medium sized watercolor brush
