We recommend completing Watercolor Basics 1 & 2 before taking any other watercolor course. This will help you learn and practice the fundamentals techniques. If Watercolor Basics 1 & 2 are not currently offered, we can do private instruction.

Making a great painting often means starting with a good drawing. In this class we will focus on the basics of perspective and composition to create base drawings for paintings. We we learn how to using a drawing as a guide for a painting rather than a copied version of a reference photo.

This class can be done as only drawing or as pen & ink + watercolor wash.

Class Dates: Saturdays,  June 5, 19, 26 (All are encourage to attend the Plein Air class on June 12 to practice drawing. Register separately for the class ($20) or for free to just come and draw)

Drawing only:

  • Drawing or Sketch pad – 9 x 12 or larger
  • Graphite pencils  (2B, H)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • White soft eraser
  • Ruler

For Pen, Ink + watercolor:

  • Pencil
  • White soft eraser
  • Ruler
  • Watercolor heavy mixed media paper
  • Micron (.o5 or .08), Fine point Sharpie, Super Black from Creative Mark or other permanent black pens/markers that are water proof
  • Watercolor brushes
  • Small container of water
  • Paper towels
